It's Medicare Annual Enrollment: Here's What You Need to Know

Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs October 15 to December 7. This is your yearly chance to review your coverage and make changes for 2027.

Why it matters

Medicare plans change every year. Premiums, deductibles, drug coverage, and provider networks can all be different from what you had last year. Staying with your current plan without checking could mean paying more or losing coverage for a doctor or prescription you rely on.

What you can do during AEP

• Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan, or back again

• Change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another

• Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan

Any changes you make by December 7 take effect January 1, 2027.
